Question: Is it wise to write your stories down in a notebook first?

Answer: It's always a good idea to write your stories down, in any form whatsoever. Otherwise, you tend to forget details by the time you're ready to write a good draft.

Keeping a notebook (paper) with you throughout the day to record ideas that come to you at unexpected moments is a very good idea. Of course, you can just as easily use a cellphone, electronic notebook, laptop, index cards, etc.
